The Canvas was founded in 2014, by former actress and puppeteer Ruth Rogers. She has since been joined by project manager Darren Keene, and theatre facilitator Francine Dulong.
Canvas Owner Ruth has always trusted that humans are awesome, creative and positive, and that all we need to do to encourage this is to provide a space for it to happen
So much more than a cafe
The Canvas is that space; a blank canvas for positivity.
We are a not-for-profit social enterprise tackling loneliness and isolation, fear and division by providing space to support and enable the launch of new ideas that improve the lives of others, nurturing and incubating creativity and community.
We are a launchpad for new, positive ideas through our Community Hub free event space: since opening, we’ve supported the launch of 100s of new ideas to London.
We support female empowerment, mental health and wellbeing, inclusivity and diversity with our weekly night Wednesday Wise Owls, partnering with some of the most innovative grassroots organisations in London.
We incubate new women-led live performance every Friday night with Friday Night Owls, a night showcasing upcoming artists in comedy, theatre, cabaret and storytelling.
We champion veganism and sustainable, ethical living in our homemade Cafe that’s open 7 days a week. Our pay-it-forward board allows guests to pre-pay hot drinks and meals for those who can’t afford it.
We are committed to providing an inclusive, accountable safe space for our community.
This is why we were named London’s first Happy Cafe in 2015.
Come see the magic for yourself.
