Central London Kings X The British Library
Buddhist traditions across Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Indonesia have produced a rich variety of art and artefacts over the centuries, ranging from architecture, sculpture, and wall paintings to manuscripts, textiles, lacquer, and furniture. Alexandra Green of the British Museum explores some distinctive highlights.
Alexandra Green is Henry Ginsburg Curator for Southeast Asia at the British Museum. She has a PhD on the subject of 18th-century Burmese wall paintings from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. She curated an exhibition entitled Pilgrims, Healers, and Wizards: Buddhism and Religious Practices in Burma and Thailand (2014) at the British Museum, and an exhibition about Sir Stamford Raffles’ collecting practices, Raffles in Southeast Asia: Revisiting the Scholar and Statesman, also at the British Museum.1
