The 8-Week Mindfulness Course Explained
The 8-week MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) course was developed at the University of Massachusetts by Jon Kabat-Zinn nearly 40 years ago.
The MBSR course is the most well-known and established mindfulness course, it is taught across the world, and is proven to help people to cope better with stress, depression, pain and anxiety.
This eight-week course uses a combination of experiential mindfulnesspractices as well as techniques of neuroscience and psychology and the study of well-being.
During each of the eight weeks a different topic is explored, along with teaching of the theories that underpin the course. A range of practices is introduced in the sessions, and a workbook and recordings are all provided to support your learning.
Regular home practice is important, so this is a necessary consideration to make before embarking on the course.
By practicing mindfulness, we learn how to manage our emotions and our reactions to stress more skilfully. We learn techniques to build-in a pause before we might react to situations and instead we can choose how to respond with more consideration.
To quote psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor, Viktor Frankl:
“Between stimulus and response there’s a space, in that space lies our power to choose our response, in our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
The course can be taken in a group or one a one to one basis.
In a group there is the benefit of learning from each other, however we offer one to one learning as this can be more flexible and can be delivered at a time that suits you.
One to one learning also suits those that are less comfortable in a group environment.
8 Week Group Course Cost: £250
Joining a group course enables us to share our experiences, discuss any challenges with practice we may find and can really help us to feel supported. We meet at the same time each week for eight weeks.
8 Week One to One Course Cost: £395
For some the idea of a group course is overwhelming or perhaps you might be too busy to commit to a regular day each week. With a one to one course we can work around your availability and run the sessions at a time and a place that is more convenient for you.
All costs include a comprehensive work book and the recordings needed for home practice.

Hi I’m Lucy
For 20 years I worked in Media. Initially, my roles were in sales and customer service management and I then spent the next 17 years as the Training Manager with two of the UK’s largest newspaper and magazine publishers.
Workplace Stress & Strain
My last five years were spent working alongside the HR team and were a real eye opener to the stresses and strains of the workplace. With cuts in the workforce and an increase in workload for those remaining, it became evident that organisations need to place stress management at the forefront of their well-being strategies.
I had lived life on high alert, and being a single mother and the only breadwinner had taken its toll. I was, to use a word used regularly by Ruby Wax, “Frazzled”.
Thanks to someone recommending Ruby Wax’s books to me, several years ago, I listened to one of her audio books. She spoke extensively about how Mindfulness had helped her and I was fascinated. Everything resonated so deeply and this felt like the right solution.
Mindfulness changed my life
I began to consume everything I could find about Mindfulness and took an 8-week course. I can honestly say it changed my life. My perspective changed, I was calmer, I was happier, and I was more confident to make the decisions in life that were best for me.
The opportunity of redundancy
So when the opportunity for redundancy came and I was faced with a choice of what to do next, it was an easy decision to make. I had trained people for the best part of 20 years and I was passionate about telling the world about Mindfulness.
I retrained to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction with Kathy Ward from Mindful Academy International,and subsequently began a Masters in Mindfulness with Bangor University (The Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice) studying under some of the most renowned experts in Mindfulness in the UK.
