A forest bathing walk enables you to leave behind for 2 to 3 hours all the things that are cluttering your mind and life, it gives you space. Space to truly listen to yourself and to what nature has to mirror back to you. It helps you slow down and reconnect with nature’s rhythm and pace, our natural pace.

In Japan, shinrin-yoku, aka forest bathing, is a well-being practice since the 1980’s. Do not expect a hike or a naturalist session, the destination in forest bathing is “here” not “there”. It doesn’t just use nature as a pleasant backdrop, but gives participants a direct experience of themselves as part of the ecosystem.

Space to truly listen to yourself and to what nature has to mirror back to you. It helps you slow down and reconnect with nature’s rhythm and pace, our natural pace.

How will this work in practice? We will walk at a gentle pace on an easy and short trail in Epping forest. You will be offered different experiences which will awaken your senses, help you slow down, be in the present moment and place and reconnect with yourself and your surroundings. There will be also moments to share our experiences together and time spent in silence. The walk is like a small journey where time suspends itself and it’ll leave you feeling deeply relaxed, refreshed, and more connected to yourself, others and nature.

NB: A scheduled walk can be postponed due to weather condition. In that case, you’ll receive a message with alternative dates to choose from. There is a minimum of 3 participants for the walk to take place.

Who is it for?

People from age 18 onwards, unless specified otherwise.

Forest bathing doesn’t require to be particularly fit, so it’s a very inclusive activity.

How big is the group?

The groups are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 12 people. Please use the booking button so we can manage numbers.

What to bring?

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes for outdoor activities. Dress in layers to stay warm and dry. We will be moving at a leisurely pace, so temperatures may feel cooler than you expect. In case of rain, make sure to wear waterproof clothes. You might also want to bring water with you.

Health and safety

Any outdoor activity entails known and unanticipated risks and although forest bathing is a low-risk activity, you still need to assume the full responsibility of your own well-being and safety.

We will meet at the View, the visitors centre, in Chingford. (right next to the Queen’s hunting lodge)

Tickets policy

Tickets are non-exchangeable and only refundable up to 30 days before the walk, unless the walk is cancelled by the organiser.

What if it rains?

As Roger Miller said “Some walk in the rain, others just get wet”.
The walk will still happen in light rain and be adapted in consequence. Rain can actually enhance the sensory experience of the walk.
In case of extreme weather, it’ll be cancelled.

About the organiser and nature based wellbeing  Estelle Asselin

Various studies have now established that nature plays a vital role in our well-being. It helps us restore our body and mind, but also sparks our imagination and reinforces our relationships. Yet we’re spending more and more time inside, in concrete surroundings and in front of screens.
We deprive ourselves from experiencing not only its wellness benefits, but also its teachings and support.

By offering nature-based well-being practices, my hope is to give people an alternative way to keep their balance, cultivate their self-awareness and imagination, as well as reinforce their relationship to nature and others.
