Mixing yoga, light, sound and scent, each coloured class focuses on the benefits of the given wavelength for our body and emotions. It’s totally immersive and fun. Based in Shoreditch, East London, the ChromaYoga studio is a one of a kind space, cut off from the outside world which transforms as it moves through the colours of the spectrum.
The ChromaYoga Method
Chroma Yoga classes are grounded in the latest scientific research into the effect that specific light frequencies can have on our body.
Many scientific studies have been conducted to monitor the effects of monochromatic light on the human body and mind. One of the most common colours which affect our day to day routines is blue light. The advances in technology over the past 40 years has culminated in a influx of over exposure to blue light through laptops, smartphones, tv’s and tablets. This prolonged exposure to blue light has been scientifically proven to suppress the production of melatonin and subsequently interferes with our natural circadian rhythms. Suppression of melatonin at night can contribute to a wealth of emotional and physical problems; from insomnia, anxiety, S.A.D and even cancer.
ChromaYoga sets to address the imbalance in our lives by saturating ourselves in the colours we need to bring about positive change. Each ChromaYoga class is held in a ergonomically designed room bathed in a specific colour of light. The teacher guides the class through a set of sequences which correspond to the healing properties of that colour. The lighting we use is non-invasive, safe and environmentally friendly.
As well as light therapy, sound therapy is a big part of each ChromaYoga class. Taking inspiration from binaural and isochronic tones, each class is accompanied by a specially composed soundtrack which emulates the frequencies our brains emit in different states of consciousness. These sounds can promote a more calm, focused and relaxed state of mind and allow for a class without distraction whilst delivering a multi dimensional sound experience that guides the class into a fully immersive sensory state.
Collaborating with one of London’s most talented scent makers, Asakala, we have developed our own combination of essential oils to correspond with each class colour. These scents will be used in harmony with yoga poses to drive energy, aid breath work, release muscle tension and encourage relaxation.

Chroma Yoga was founded By Nina Ryner.
Nina Ryner has spent the last 10 years in a variety of creative industries. From graduating with a degree in Film to touring the world as a backing dancer, art directing photoshoots and running a fashion label, Nina’s passion is putting her ideas to task and making them reality.
Taking inspiration from the interactive art installations of James Turrell, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Veronica Ann Janssens and Olafur Eliasson and fusing this with her ideas about futuristic fitness – ChromaYoga was born.
Working closely with yoga teacher, Clara Baker, artist, Asakala, and sound designer Tim Goalen, the ChromaYoga concept was developed to encompass a range of multi-sensory experiences which approach yoga and wellness in a new and exciting way not yet seen before.
By bringing together ancient healing practises with new and innovative modern technology, Nina’s passion for the future of wellness is the driving force behind the unique experience that ChromaYoga offers.
